Based on 0 ReviewsJudson graduates have done amazing work in service to others. You can read some of their full stories on the Judson Alumni Stories page. But here’s a look into a few alumni accomplishments. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Kristy Engle has coordinated and worked with medical missionary teams that bring health and medical services to people across the world, in places like the Dominican Republic and Thailand. Similarly, Dr. Joe Compton, who was awarded the Alumnus of the Year Award in 2009, has made several annual trips to Haiti to provide medical care. Class of 1988 graduate Gayle Gianopulos co-founded GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers, which deliver free educational programs to families. There are now over 23 locations nationwide and one in Mexico. Dave Breese was an author, broadcaster, and pastor who helped found and serve the nonprofit organization Youth For Christ for more than a decade. If you are called to a career focused on helping and empowering others, you’ll be in great company at Judson.
Along the banks of the Fox River sits Judson University’s Elgin campus. You can walk or bike alongside the river or study in the grass near Tyler Creek, which winds through campus before it meets up with the river. Around 1,200 students study at this charming Christian college. Judson offers a lively spiritual community. If you’re studying as a traditional undergraduate student, you and your friends can gather to worship at Herrick Chapel throughout every semester. You can even attend concerts and speakers at the chapel. You might even get to see some world-renowned speakers; former Prime Minister Tony Blair and former U.S. President George W. Bush have both spoken at Judson’s World Leaders Forum. As far as other campus buildings go, Lindner Tower is pretty unique. Judson turned this former seven-story hotel into a hub of campus resources: dorms, hangout spots, a café, classrooms, advising services, and faculty offices. If you live in Lindner you could grab a fruit parfait, chat with your psychology professor, and lounge with friends all without leaving the building. Pretty convenient! But if you don’t live in Lindner, no class, service, or event will ever be too far of a trek on foot. Plus, you’ll probably see lots of familiar faces as you wander through campus.
Judson offers five accelerated bachelor’s degree programs designed for busy adults: business administration, applied psychology, human services, communication management, management and leadership. If you are not ready to commit to a bachelor’s program you could start by earning your associate’s degree in liberal arts. It’s a great way to get a feel for different bachelor’s degree paths at Judson. You can take classes once per week on the Elgin or Rockford campuses. Or, you could save yourself the commute and enroll online. If you’re looking to get an advanced degree Judson delivers online graduate study in organizational leadership, leadership in ministry, and business administration. No matter which Judson path you choose you will find it is rich with opportunities to grow your knowledge, beliefs, and career prospects at the same time.
In addition to a vibrant spiritual life, Judson is home to an active athletics community. The Eagles represent the Navy and Gold in 19 sports including basketball, bowling, lacrosse, tennis, golf, track and field, volleyball, and cross-country. Men’s soccer players are no strangers to soaring above the competition. They have won six national championships since 1991. Women’s basketball has won six conference championships of their own. Also, the women’s soccer and softball teams made exciting strides in the past decade when they won their first conference championships. But the Eagles are champions of character as well as athletic skill—literally. The Eagles are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and participate in the Champions of Character program. Players support the five core values of respect, integrity, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership by completing character education and service activities. And they do it well. In 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 Judson was recognized as a five-star institution on the Champions of Character scorecard. As an Eagle you can expect to grow as an athlete, a scholar, and a person.
As a Christian college you’ll find that Judson offers programs in ministry, pastoral leadership, and biblical studies. If you pursue a Master of Leadership in Ministry degree you’ll put your classroom learning into practice by completing practicums and internships. Some students help underserved populations and assist with running service programs in places like Ukraine and Cambodia. Students in this program also have the chance to spend time studying biblical history in Israel. And get this: the cost of the trip is already included in your tuition! Judson academic programs run the gamut, including graphic design, marketing, biochemistry, interior design, architecture, exercise and sport science, and much more. No matter your major, you can still participate in national and international study abroad programs and service projects. In 2015 students were invited to participate in mission trips in the Bahamas, Peru, Kenya, and the Dominican Republic. Serve others, learn about yourself, deepen your faith, and discover your calling—these are just a few of ways your college experience can be #JudsonAwesome.
